Horse riding in back of pickup doing 70mph is perfectly legal, police say

Texas is known for its outlandish cowboy charm and nothing embodies its country swagger better than this horse riding in the back of a pickup.
The clip shows a saddled brown animal standing in the back of a truck doing 70mph – and it’s perfectly legal, police say.
Kerry Costello filmed the horse, that she said was ‘secured only by a rope,’ as it rode down a highway near Corrigan, Texas on Saturday.

However dangerous it may seem, Corrigan police said nothing the driver did was illegal, Click2Houston reported.
According to Texas legislation, the driver would have been breaking the law if he ‘transported or confined the animal in a cruel manner,’ which authorities determined was not the case.

Police said the horse was riding in the truck bed because the driver’s other truck, one that is able to pull a horse trailer, would not start.
The horse is also ‘extremely well-trained,’ valued at over $15,000, and made it safely to its destination, according to KTRK.
Although the horse appeared relaxed, and behaved well, Costello still said it ‘could have been a dangerous situation.’
‘I thought) anything spooks this horse, (and it’s) a danger to this horse, this driver, the other people on the road and me and my husband and our two 5-year-olds in our car,’ she said.
