This is why you shouldn’t do the viral ‘boiling water’ challenge in shorts

People go to great lengths to get those perfect winter wonderland social media posts, but there’s no need to scald your legs for it.
We’ve all been inspired by those amazing videos of people throwing boiling hot water up in the cold winter air which freezes before it hits the ground and turns into something that resembles a candy floss cloud.
But if you’re tempted to try it out, one man has really learned the lesson for all of us – don’t do it in your pants.

Chris Kieger, who lives in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, decided to give the viral ‘boiling water’ challenge a go, and really regretted it.

The American can be seen in a video chucking a sauce pan of boiling hot water over himself in nothing but his swimming trunks, and it looks idyllic and picturesque for a second, before it hits his leg and scalds him.
And the whole attempt turns into an awkward dance.
Chris said: ‘The temperature at the time was around -14°C with a wind chill in the -40s, though luckily the wind wasn’t blowing much when I was out there.

‘On my first attempt, I managed to drop some of the boiling water on my calf.’
But Chris shared it on social media and people really loved it, with one man saying: ‘There’s always that one guy outside in shorts and flip-flops, no matter what temperature it is.’
Another added: ‘He was able to get burned outside on the coldest day in decades.’
While one just said: ‘What a moron’, and another added: ‘You suffer for our amusement’.
Others complained that ‘even your camera angle was dumb because most of the water arc is out of shot’.
We think it was a fair attempt Chris, but please see below for how it’s really meant to be done.

And how you’re NOT supposed to do it.
